Practices

We have developed a highly specialized investment model for the private company market that deepens investor engagement in addressing the unprecedented environmental and social pressures in the United States and around the world created by food, water and energy security, access to natural resources, climate change, human rights abuses, supply chain labor standards and aging populations.  Our community investing will finance projects or institutions that serve poor and underserved communities in the United States and overseas.

Field of Expertise:

The first of its kind in St. Louis and one of the first in the United States, MSG was formed to satisfy the growing demand of clients, select investors and wealth managers who actively seek out investments that are likely to provide important societal or environmental benefits while managing risk and fulfilling fiduciary duties.  MSG seeks to participate with the growing body of academic research reflecting a strong link between SRI, ESG and financial performance. We have developed a highly specialized SRI/ESG investment model in the private company market.

Strategy

Our strategy is to utilize both SRI and Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria to guide our investment analysis and portfolio construction across a range of asset classes. We carefully assess the quality of management and the likely resilience of each portfolio company in dealing with future challenges.  Then we add value to each portfolio company through our performance improvement and equity revitalization programs that establish key improvement measures and growth systems to improve EBITDA and valuation. We also pro-actively forge shareholder resolutions in the private company marketplace and practice other forms of shareholder/owner engagement.

Innovation

MSG is also the first fund to drive SRI concepts in two business sectors:

  • Pre M&A equity revitalization and performance improvement

  • Commercial real estate office leasing tenant representation

This enhances each transaction and creates significant marketing advantages, as competitors are not likely or able to follow suit.  MSG will invest ten percent of its fund into these sectors and require the same rate of return and growth as in its other investments.
